Please note: Applications for M.S. thesis and Ph.D. programs in Chemistry are accepted for both Fall and Spring semesters.  Students are not currently being admitted in the M.S. non-thesis track.  Application deadlines are listed below.

Application Deadlines
Fall admission: February 15
Spring admission: October 1

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry encourages all full-time students to begin their studies in the Fall semester due to the rotation component of the first year curriculum. However, qualified students will be considered for Spring semester admission if application materials are received by October 1. Students wishing to pursue studies on a part-time basis may submit applications up to one month before the desired date of entrance.

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Application Requirements
1. The application form completed in full.
You can
download and print the Application (all applicants) OR complete an Online Application:
* U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents/Green Card Holders

* International Applicants

2. A Statement of Purpose is required. 
It should be approximately 250 words, describing your goals and objectives for enrolling in this program.

3. Official transcripts in English of all undergraduate and any graduate studies completed.
Ask the registrar(s) of your undergraduate and graduate colleges or universities to send the transcript to the above address.

4. Three letters of recommendation sent by your listed references to the above address.
In addition, please also have each reference submit a completed
recommendation form.


5. Original GRE scores sent to the above address.
General test scores are required, and subject test scores are recommended.

6. Application Fees.
* There is no application fee for domestic applicants to the graduate degree programs in the Department of Biological Sciences.
* For domestic applicants seeking a non-degree program, there is a $10 application fee (make check or money order payable to Duquesne University).
* INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS - There is a $40 application processing fee (make check or money order payable to Duquesne University).


7. International Students Only.
 - Your application package must also contain the following:

* Official TOEFL scores that are current to one year.
 * Before classes begin, International students and any non-native speakers of the English language (including Lawful Permanent Residents) will be required to take the Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit (SPEAK) test.  On occasion students with exceptionally high speaking portions of the TOEFL may be waived from the SPEAK test.
* Duquesne University
Affidavit of Support Form completed in full and an official bank statement. The affidavit of support form is a legal document that a student’s sponsor must complete and have notarized and certified. The bank statement must be from the sponsor and show at least one full year of costs. Estimates of costs for the academic year are available from the Office of International Programs.
* Mandatory International Student Form (click on the link to download the .pdf document).
* 40 USD check or money order (payable to Duquesne University).
